Blades of Glory --Implications for the Arts

One of my kids saw Blades of Glory, the movie starring Will Farrel and Jon Heder? (Napoleon Dynamite) --which is not about gays at all --and no humor to that effect, she said.

But she said it does show how incongrous and funny it is to see 2 men as a figure-skating pair.

Well it used to be just as funny to think of two men marrying --but now we are expected to take that seriously and not giggle at the incongruity because they are serious about their attractions.

I expect therefore, that gays WILL begin to wonder why they cannot be a figure skating pair, a ball-room dancing pair, etc. Why not!? If we are going to treat them same as female-male couples in all other ways, we shall also be expected to take them seriously in the arts heretofore reserved for hetero couples. We'll also have transgenders competing in female competitions and having advantage of their male origins --which is why we have females compete with each other and not against the bigger, stronger males.

There is no end to the silliness coming....

Hey, Crankshaft, welcome to MY blog --I thought about deleting such an off topic, nonsensical, rambling post on OCD after scrolling through it FOREVER --you've got me beat for length -as you intended. I decided to let your friends see who is obsessed here.

I do think you have one paragraph that may describe the onset of homosexual ideation:

LD quotes an MD: "The chief complaint in this illness is that the person gets both obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are repetitive thoughts, ideas or images, which one gets against his wish. It could be ...individual sexual thoughts ..., which you don't want otherwise. They keep coming again and again. They are repugnant and irrational. You know them but you can't control them. The more you try to resist them the more prominent they become. When you get these obsessions you try to resist them and when you fail to resist, then you have repetitive actions."

This probably does describe the experience of abnormal sexual thoughts that lead to sex addictions/fixations.

A child I know heard some bad words on TV --and his mother taught him that we don't say those words and why. Afterwards, he told her those words were just in his head all the time; he couldn't stop thinking about them --

St. Paul said something to this effect, "The thing I don't want to do is the thing I find myself doing."

Children do wrestle with temptation to have persistant thoughts which they know are bad thoughts --like being so mad at a sibling that he wants to hurt him --even momentarily wishing he were dead. He doesn't REALLY wish it --but finds he has such thoughts and feels very guilty about it--especially if something DOES happen to his sibling.

How any of us grow up to be reasonably normal and free of addicitons, obsessions, is a marvel. God's grace. A positive view of God and His love and forgiveness is so important for children.

And the knowledge that Susannah Wesley passed on to her 17 children
"You may not be able to keep the birds of temptation from flying about your head, but you need not let them light and make nests in your hair."

Jesus said, "with every temptation, I will provide a way of escape." We do have choices and can change the direction of our thoughts --combat evil thoughts with scripture, prayer, and righteous thinking--or just go to another topic mentally! Read --watch a program --turn on the radio, get busy, etc.

We can admit our powerlessness before our Father and ask Him to change our thinking to what it should be. And then take command over our thoughts and actions with God's help and by His indwelling Spirit. One foot ahead of the other --doing what is right.
It's important that we do not give our thoughts too much power --and assume too much guilt for those birds of temptation.

I'm trying to do that with food right now --consciously making better choices. I'm more an impulsive eater than a compulsive one. It's there --the Easter candy --the enabling spouse....

Cheer up, LD.

LD posts: "A study at the University of Georgia showed that most men, whom the researchers defined as homophobic, experienced significant sexual arousal when watching a homosexual movie involving sex between two men. Their rate was more than [no, just less than] double the rate of non-homophobic men. Latent homosexual desires, of which the men may not have been aware, may be a cause of homophobia which may lead to a desire to deny equal rights to gay males."

Tell the whole truth, LD. These men ALL responded the same to female porn --implying they responded heterosexually. 80 per cent of the most homophobic men responded to gay sex porn and I believe 44 percent of the less homophobic responded. So if there were equal numbers of the homophobic and the merely "straight", I believe 62 per cent of all the men responded to both gay and straight porn. Which shows that erotic material is stimulating --naked people acting sexual toward anyone --seeing forbidden sexual images can be erotic --especially to men with strong libido, I bet --the men who were most homophobic because they don't want to respond to men but know that sexual buttons CAN be pushed by anyone causing a response. Erotic material is designed to elicit erotic response --period --and does not indicate orientation necessarily.

The study proved that over half the men (who came in for the research) in general responded to gay porn. THAT comes darn close to proving it IS a choice that could end the human race and a lot of marriages if men chose homosex instead of hetero just because they COULD respond in a homosexual situation.

I know many men would not cross such a line --and vehemently oppose crossing such a line (for which you call them homophobic) --just as they would not have sex with anyone other than their spouse --would not think sexually toward their children --would not cross a moral barrier to have homosex. And my husband says he wouldn't do any research that asked him to watch porn.

It all starts in the mind... Even your homophobes had to be willing to respond wearing the university's "peter meter." If you don't want to respond sexually, there are ways to avoid it. I'm thinking these guys weren't all that homophobic as the study claimed.

I will always believe that we parents can help our children have normal orientation --especially in a good and normal marriage with a father-son relationship that is close and affectionate --without daddy feminizing his son.

And Children must be protected from molesters and GLSEN sex educators who tell them to "explore your sexuality."

I have no need to hate --and do not hate homosexuals --and I haven't been to any meetings where the topic is even discussed to see faces on BOTH sides contorted with rage --as you describe the anti-gay folks as having.

Barb said...

You'll see more rage on anti-Christian faces than on the faces of those who believe the Biblical stance on homosex.

Head Scarf!!!

Barb said...

So you think head covering is to prevent temptation as symbolized by Ms. Wesley's story for children? The all-over covering by middle easterners was for that purpose --to protect you weak-willed men with strong libido from temptatious sights.

I think there was a spiritual aspect to the tradition of head covering that is even present in the new testament. Some later reasoned the covering could be long hair on a woman ---it was a sort of humbling oneself in the presence of God at church --but then hats in America got to be ostentatious displays --like the Easter bonnets --and it became more humble to NOT wear hats. Hat wearing was relegated to "legalism" --that really didn't effectively signify righteousness before God. AS Jesus had said, "Man looks on the outside, but God looks on the heart."

Very tragic --horrendous. Like abortion.

Multiculturalism says all cultures are equally respectable. We must never forget Aztec culture.
