READ NEWSWEEK, Dec. 7, 2009, RE: OBAMA, ABORTION, ENTITLEMENTS, ECONOMIC COLLAPSE OF USA

Newsweek,12/7/2009, titled HOW GREAT POWERS FALL announces on the cover: Steep debt, slow growth, and high spending kill empires--and America could be next --by Niall Ferguson.

This issue also has a pro-choice writer telling that Democrats are mad at Obama for not insisting that gov't fund abortions. But, in fact, his Blue Dog democrats dare NOT vote for gov't-funded abortions; the abortion liberals do not have a majority in the nation's polls or in the Senate. They managed to put gov't-funding of abortion in the House version of the health reform bill--but it ain't gonna happen in the Senate! Hurrah for common sense and decency! and LIFE!

Reality of opposition has come to this president --as it did to Bush. You cannot get the majority to go your way--and still get re-elected --on some of these hard core controversies.

Here's another Newsweek tidbit: THE WAR ON TERROR IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR FINANCIAL MESS --AMOUNTING TO 1.8 PERCENT OF GDP. THE DEFICIT IN 2009 IS ABOUT 11.2 PERCENT OF GDP ACCORDING TO THE CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE --GREATER THAN ANY IN THE PAST 60 YEARS. And the war is only a fraction of it. It is nowhere near the cost of a world war, according to Laurence A. Tischy, prof of history at Harvard and the author of The Ascent of Money.

Prof Tischy says, in effect, "It's the Entitlements, Stupid!"

Consider that 40 per cent of adult Americans do not pay any taxes (tv source --don't recall who) --and many of these get the earned income tax credit --a gift from the gov't for working, so that working will be more profitable to them than sitting on the public dole. So only 60 percent are paying INTO the gov't, and the rest are all taking FROM. The 40% of non-contributors grows because we aren't making babies!! and we are aging!

And the Dumb Donkey Democrats want to add national healthcare to this scenario and tax higher the job generators making 250,000 and above. Nevermind that there aren't enough people in this income bracket to pay for all those entitlements to people who are not paying much, if anything, into the system. Nevermind that high taxes on the "haves" eliminates jobs and hurts small businesses especially --who provide most of the jobs (with the exception of Gov't bureaucracy --whose only money comes from the tax-payers because gov't MAKES nothing.)

HIGHEST STUPIDITY! DEMS WANT GOV'T TO PAY FOR ABORTIONS AND REQUIRE ALL HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS WITH GOV'T-SUBSIDIZED PATIENTS TO PARTICIPATE. Besides being morally indefensible, WE NEED CHILDREN!!!! We need good parents, also, to raise responsible, educated, moral, working citizens. Otherwise, the kids we do make end up on the dole and there is no income to tax for the entitlement programs.

Everybody will have to tighten their belts --including the seniors --of which I am technically one, though not yet gov't-dependent --in order to get us out of this mess.

And we are at the state where NOBODY VOTES LESS FREEBIES AND LESS MONEY FOR THEMSELVES. EVERYBODY WANTS TO KEEP ALL THEIR SO-CALLED ENTITLEMENTS --AND OBAMA AND THE DEMS ANNUALLY PROMISE THEM MORE!!! THEY GET ELECTED ON WHAT THEY CANNOT DELIVER! BECAUSE THE GOV'T MONEY COMES FROM THE WORKERS AND JOB GENERATORS --WHICH WE ARE MAKING FEWER OF.

You can't get blood from a turnip --which the nation has become!

What a mess!!!

Ironically, tightening the belt means less spending --and that doesn't help the economy!

I don't much like the stark blue lights on the white trees on my porch--and wonder how much the energy costs --they are LED lights. my husband is the decorator. Could we help a poor person with the money saved by spending less on ourselves? Yes, but then the electric company raises rates to compensate when we don't use as much!

The problem is too big for my finite mind!

I don't think it matters too much, our machine overlords are going to sedate us and stick wires in us to tap our metabolic processes for battery power. People are worried that Obama might be a secret muslim antichrist, what they should worry about is that he is actually a secret lizard being from planet Ggkkrks and is part of a nefarious plane to take over the world and deny us replenishment of our precious bodily fluids.. "The truth is out there".

Thanks for your serious contemplation of this complex issue, Steve! And they say women are spacey!

Yes... Ggkkrks is in space - it could be the mysterious planet X that orbits opposite the earth in the same orbital plane - always hidden by the sun. These lizard people are reported to be green and wear a helmet that resembles an orange dust broom. It's been reported that they have no facial features other than two large white eyes staring from underneath their green helmet. They have large nubs for fingers and no opposable thumbs.. that's why they loath Humans.. opposable thumbs.

I'm not taking this serious because this post is representative of the new GOP amnesia. That somehow 8 years of republican rule didn't drive the debt up to astronomical proportions and now it's all Obama's fault.

Anyway here's some interesting charts:.. I love my charts:..

Notice in this chart.. Clinton years.. debt goes down.. Bush years.. Debt goes up.. not only up.. BUT WAY UP:

Here's another chart.. aparently the sky isn't falling.. comparatively.

Steve, you do know why the debt went down under Clinton, don't you? You know, the GOP Congress made him cut expenditures such as "welfare as we know it" and other programs.

This fiscal year is barely 2 months old and is already has more debt than we had this time last year under Bush.

You do realize we were attacked by Muslim terrorists on 9/11/01 and had to go to war to catch the ones who did this and kill as many others even if we didn't catch bin Laden?

You do understand, don't you, that the primary responsibility of the federal government is to provide for the defense of the country?

Congress was given authority to raise taxes to maintain a military to protect the citizens of this country. Nothing in the Constitution says anything about social programs and pork barrel spending.

You also realize, don't you, that we started going deeper and deeper in debt when Pelosi and gang took over and said they would "fix the economy" that happened to be working just fine, thank you, at the time.

I'm sure you also recall it was Chris Dodd and Barney Frank among other democrats who got the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac companies in deep doo doo and the democrats in congress in general who forced bad housing policies upon us such as interest only mortgages with balloon payments in a few years which the customers couldn't afford.

Yes, it was all Bush's fault. Did anyone ever tell you you are a dolt? I just did.

You use a bobble head Jesus but seem to be anti-Christian in everything you say and believe. If I'm not mistaken you also are one of the ones allowed to post on Mud Puddle's blog, which is completely atheistic and pro-democrat.

If you are not a professing Christian please let us know. If you are, also please let us know because I don't know you from Adam and I can't tell by what you write here.

I can't take you seriously either.

Has anyone ever called you a cutie pie? Well I just did cutie pie! All that claptrap about Dodd, Pelosi - etc... Is just fox news propaganda. The cause of the economic meltdown was banking deregulation - specifically banks packaging mortgages as investment vehicles for wallstreet - specifically as a product of the Republican congress passage of the Graham - Rudlidge act. Even the high priest of neoliberal economics, Greenspan, acknowledged as much when he made his apology.

What does my religious beliefs, my blog posting habits, or my political affiliation have to dowith anything?

(I don't know how this will turn out, I'm posting with my phone)

Steve, Jeanette's American and political history is usually right on.

It wasn't the GOP rule that drove up the deficit and debt --it was all the entitlements! Look at the pie charts on the subject! Now he did spend big on the war --BUT it is always a minuscule fraction of our total gov't spending! a twelfth if I recall from 09 spending. And he was VERY generous with money to try to help after Katrina, 9/11, and numerous other disaster areas around the country. And He spent big on AIDS in Africa --and the Africans know it! Ironically, Viet Nam gave him a hero's welcome when he visited there --I don't know why. But it's not true that the whole world thinks he was a disaster responsible for all our present woes--and I don't.

When did the earned income tax credit kick in? Was that a Bush thing? It's better than giving hand-outs for not working at all as welfare does. Granted, single moms need help --and this is not a time for unskilled labor to find jobs! But single moms with kids in school used to sit home to make more babies because they got paid for it --since LBJ's great Society Welfare fiasco --which helped to put nail in the coffin of poor families' marriages/male support. The men couldn't live in the house and get any gov't money, so the freebies went to single moms for every baby they could make.

Gingerich and the GOP, two years into Clinton's term, took over the Congress with the "Contract with America" campaign and said welfare moms had to get a job after 2 years or so--or be seeking one --or going to school for one--of course, we paid for a lot of that, figuring it was economical in the long run to get people educated and working. And I don't know that it increased abortion--since I believe the abortion rate actually has gone down since the Clinton years.

I remember Montel Williams being disgusted with a welfare mama who said she made beautiful babies and the gov't rightly paid her to do that --if they could pay for NASA, why not her kids?

The problem, of course, is that gov't is PEOPLE and other people aren't to believe that the tax payers OWE them something for nothing.

Holland comm. churches are knocking themselves out to work together meeting Christmas needs for the poor with the coordination of salvation army and their own awareness of needs.

But what I see is a direct correlation of immorality with MANY of those who are chronically on the dole. They don't need to ALSO have a "sense of entitlement" --that Uncle Sam should be the provider for my children.

Bush did start the bail-outs. Was it necessary? would there have been some awful collapse worse than what was if he hadn't?

and the terms for the bailouts--retaining over priced CEO's, etc. and outlandish bonuses for these failed companies --should've been anticipated and prevented when the gov't stepped in!!!

It does seem, as Geo. Will wrote in Newsweek this week --that Obama and Pelosi are going pell mell --that "whirl is king" --and they don't know the heck what they're doing!!! and trying to do it really fast --with health care -cap and trade, etc.

Barb said...

Steve --you support the most pro-abortion, biggest spending administration ever. How?

Jeanette said...

So, Steve, if Dodd and Frank etc. are not responsible for the bank debacle via the mortgage freebies then please tell me why Dodd is running behind by double digits in Connecticut for his re-election that comes up next year?

You can look that up anywhere, but try the oh so conservative site Politico if you think I get everything from Fox News.

Yeah, Dolt fits you very well.

Jeanette said...

Oh, yes, Steve, don't forget that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid's "fix on the "bad Bush economy" took place beginning in Bush's sixth year in office, so by your reasoning you're going to have to give at least one fourth credit to those two geniuses, except when they "fixed the bad Bush economy" everything went south.

Remember Bush tried to tell Congress about the dangers of the mortgage lending practices where anyone could get an interest only loan and have to start paying full payments after five years.

The Dems didn't want to hear that because dear old Dodd was getting a sweetheart deal from Countrywide mortgage plus a free "cottage" in Ireland.

Don't try to B.S. me about Dodd. My husband knew him as a schoolboy and knew how crooked his former senator father was too. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Ladies, don't take your frustrations out on me because you are upset with what goes on over at the mudrake. I'm a "harmless loveable fuzzball".

Jeanette said...

I don't care what goes on at the Mud Puddle. It's all drivel to me. I don't care if you post there and since he allows you to you must be "special".

I'm not taking anything out on you, but just trying to this isn't all Bush's fault.

In fact, a Politico report today says another poll shows Obama at 47% while still another shows him at 46%. Here's the interesting part: " If White House officials were peeved at Gallup Poll for its reporting on President Barack Obama’s recent slide to 47 percent approval — and they were — imagine the reaction at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. to the survey released Wednesday by Public Policy Polling, which also reported the president’s approval rating at 47 percent, but added this analysis:

“Perhaps the greatest measure of Obama’s declining support is that just 50 percent of voters now say they prefer having him as president to George W. Bush, with 44 percent saying they’d rather have his predecessor. Given the horrendous approval ratings Bush showed during his final term, that’s somewhat of a surprise and an indication that voters are increasingly placing the blame on Obama for the country’s difficulties instead of giving him space because of the tough situation he inherited. The closeness in the Obama/Bush numbers also has implications for the 2010 elections. Using the Bush card may not be particularly effective for Democrats anymore, which is good news generally for Republicans and especially ones like [former Ohio Republican Rep.] Rob Portman who are running for office and have close ties to the former president.”
"

Almost half the voters already wish we still had Bush and this other clown has been in office less than 11 months.

According to the Mud Puddle all who wish for Bush to be back are stupid and shouldn't be allowed to vote.

How we miss someone when he's no longer around and the people realize we were in better hands with Bush than with the globe-trotting Obama who loves to play golf every chance he gets even when troops are dying. Bush had the decency to stop playing golf out of respect for those fighting, dying and being injured and when he met with the families there were never any photographers there.

Contrast that to Obama, who uses everything, including a dead soldier's casket coming home for a photo op. Good thing it was only that soldier's family that allowed that travesty.

Geo. Will in Newsweek says "Whirl" seems to be king --and pell mell politics right now --that Obama and Co. don't seem to know what the heck to DO --but just do it fast. He marvels that we would try to reform healthcare with 2000 pages in a year --our biggest industry, I think he said.
