Obama in Afghanistan --a Soldier's Observation

I got this in email --indirectly from a soldier in Afghanistan.

Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to 'The War Zone'. I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet-proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General(2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram. As the soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball.

He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service. So really he was just here to make a showing for the Americans back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you. I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.

If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is.
What you see in the news is all fake.

In service,
CPT Jeffrey S. Porter
Battle Captain
TF Wasatch
American Soldier

You can often tell about the character of a man as much by what he doesn't do as by what he does. To go all the way over to Afghanistan and not try and shake the hand of every brave American soldier giving up so much of their own freedoms for the sake of ours is incomprehensible.

I've been getting a lot of mail about Obama's record on abortion voting --he was instrumental in opposing the right to life for babies who survive abortions. He knows what's at stake once we recognize the humanity of the fetus.

Add that to his failure to take the time to greet soldiers lined up to meet him; he doesn't seem as good as he sounds or looks.

The Blade commended Toledo's foundation for Life for the "maturing of their message" in having the ultrasound image booth at the mall -- silly editorial--because it's not the message that's matured; it's the technology. Before, all we had for evidence that abortion kills a child was the images of aborted fetuses --now we have the more positive image of the baby alive in the womb.

I know --I digressed! Missed you today CA --we were FULL --as the VBS kids and families came for a program --their kids got to play rhythm instruments and one class did puppets. It was a great VBS. With all workers getting along so well--over 70 kids --and maybe as many as 100 registered --some only able to come one or 2 days, etc.

hahah, what a bunch of crap!!!

Let me tell you a TRUE story. When I was in the Marines, my squadron had just gotten back from the gulf war. We had been back maybe a month and one day we got word that George Bush Sr. was going to pay a visit to our base (Marine Corpse Air Station Tustin Ca.) So we cleaned, and we polished, and we buffed and shined for almost 2 weeks before hand. Then the big day arrives and you know what happened? The secret service came onto the base like a bunch of assholes and herded everybody into the hangers and LOCKED US IN and POSTED SNIPERS ON THE ROOFS of the buildings on base and threatened that if anyone went outside of the hanger there's a possibility they might GET SHOT! I am not lying!!! So we hung out in the HOT hanger all day waiting for GB to arrive thinking maybe he might come and shake some hands or something, but NO, he landed in one helicopter and transferred to another and didn't even LOOK AROUND. This was in AMERICA, post gulf war. What the heck was he afraid of? He wasn't in a REAL war zone with the potential of getting knocked off by a potential terrorist acting as an Afghan on base contractor.

Just like all those years ago that I still feel crapped on by George Bush, deep down I know it wasn't his decision, but it was the decision of his security team.. The same holds true for Obama, I'm sure all the decisions that were made on who he would see and who he wouldn't was made by his security staff. So give me a break! You people just don't like him because he is 1. Black.. or 2. He's a Democrat. So you latch on to any cockamamie story that comes along that supports your world view. I'm not even going to bother checking this stupid story with factcheck or internet hoax because I'm about 80 percent sure it is pure BS propoganda.. and even if it wasn't so what if some private is miffed because Obama was in a hurry. Do you think if John McCain was over in a war zone, he's going to be shaking the hand of every Tom Dick and Harry? Not by a long shot. Use some critical thinking skills people. Can we elevate political discourse in this country to something above a 6 year old level?

Jeffrey S. Porter, of the Utah-based 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion, wrote an Obama-smearing "that guy hates the troops" screed the other day. Of course, his email got picked up by all the best right wing sites--it was ready-made for viral dissemination--and signed, "In service, CPT Jeffrey S. Porter, Battle Captain, TF Wasatch, American Soldier (married and father of 6 children)".

Now, after the Captain's note (and probably his service file?) was punched full of more holes than a post-SINKEX Spruance, the hapless Captain Porter is now saying something very different:
"I am writing this to ask that you delete my e-mail and not forward it, after checking my sources some of the information that was put out in my e-mail was wrong. This e-mail was meant only for my family. Please respect my wishes and delete the e-mail and if there are any blogs you have my e-mail portrayed on I would ask if you would take it down too.I challenge Captain Jeffrey S. Porter to produce a single letter to his immediate family that ends with "In service".

Yeah. And according to the Salt Lake Tribune, the guy--who deals with matters where veracity is of critical importance--is probably not going to be disciplined.

You have been pawned, Madam Barbwire.

So you are still alive, Microdot.

It's hard to believe anything you post, Patrick, because you said Laura Bush moved into a hotel she was so mad at George. Think of it --she wouldn't need a hotel --the White House is big enough for avoidance. She could always find another bedroom. She doesn't seem to be the sort to risk a scandal involving herself --no matter how mad she got.

But let's say you are right about the soldier retracting his email to family --perhaps he is career military and fears he could pay a price if Obama gets in power. He might be on the front lines right after Inauguration Day --like Bathsheba's husband.

I think you have a point, Steve, that security people manage the presidents and the candidates a great deal --and impose their authority because they are charged to keep these guys safe for the good of the nation.

Like when Bush was kept in a plane after 9/11 --and was criticized for that.

We personally waited a very long time for Pres. Geo. bush sr. when he came to campaign at the Seagate Center (against Clinton) -- and the disappointment was for the student performers --they had done all their stuff before he got there and thought they were going to get to sing for the president.

Good challenge for the sake of critical thought steve... overall. However, the insinuation of racism though doesn't qualify and is out of line. Your second option of disliking the guy (or more accurately, opposing his placement in office) on the basis of his affiliation with the democratic party doesn't qualify either because one's political alignments (but more importantly, the positions that are implied with that) pretty much constitutes half of what the political process is about.

What you've just done here is called prejudice. You assume because we are conservatives that we are all racist and or hateful of democrats. With a little hint thrown in that we are ignorant to boot.

I'm not even going to bother checking this stupid story with factcheck or internet hoax because I'm about 80 percent sure it is pure BS propoganda..

Im sure the people in the 60's who thought black people shouldnt be allowed to vote made similar arguments about their mental capacities. There was no need to check their facts since they were pretty sure it was true.

and even if it wasn't so what if some private is miffed because Obama was in a hurry.

Were you really in the Marine Corp? Because if you were you would know that the abbreviation CPT means Captain and theres a pretty big difference between a PVT and a CPT. I'm going to assume you were and you just didnt read the initial post very thoroughly because your own biases blinded you to the bare facts of the story.

I sincerely thank you for your service to our country and the sacrifices you made during Desert Storm.

I see the load of crap is still being delivered here on a daily basis.

Ah, Mudly! You always show yourself to be a gentleman, don't you? A man who cherishes free speech and the exchange of ideas!

Time to post names, addresses, and photos, isn't it? time to threaten your drive-by shooting? and inspire your few cohorts and fellows of similar charitable impulses?

Rob R said...

You're wrong, it hasn't been delivered here on a dialy basis. This is the first time you've posted in a while.

Jesus still loves you, Barb, despite your hypocrisy.

Barb said...

Just curious, Mudrake --what qualifies me as a hypocrite in your opinion? You think I really don't love you --as in "love your neighbor?"

Jesus loves you too mudrake.
